A recently released jobs report reveals IT employment is on the rise, with 120,000 new IT jobs created over the last year.
Published by TechServe Alliance, the monthly index of new IT jobs shows the number of IT positions increased by 1,800 jobs in July, bringing the total number to more than 4 million. Last month’s increase was the 18 consecutive month of IT job growth.
Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance, said the survey shows IT employment as a bright spot on America's employment horizon.
"Both the data and the anecdotal reports of our member companies confirm that demand for IT professionals remains robust, with an acute shortage of qualified professionals in certain skill sets," Roberts said in a prepared release. "While mindful that the IT employment is not immune to the broader macroeconomic trends, we remain optimistic about the prospect of continued growth in IT employment for the foreseeable future."
TechServe Alliance's IT Employment Index, a specific measurement of IT employment, is generated monthly by studying the ongoing staffing patterns of a dozen IT- and computer-related occupations in 22 industries employing significant numbers of IT workers – including the manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, financial, information services, business and professional services and education and health industries.
